Message of the 3 idiots

I was watching the 3 idiots again today :) It's my feel good film :P
I felt that a few things that the movie really addresses are focussed on the education system of today and so i came up with this message that i think it was trying to spell out:

The movie the 3 idiots is an adaptation of the novel ‘5 point someone’ by Chetan Bhagat. It focuses on the pressures that the students have to go through because of the current education system. The movie starts out with the director of the engineering college preaching to everyone that life is a race, and if you don’t run behind success you will fail. However towards the end he too realizes that excellence is more important than success. I would like to bring to light two messages highlighted in the film and how true they are and also to discuss today’s changing times.

The first message is STOP PARROTING! START UNDERSTANDING! Simply mugging up without understanding what we are studying might get us good grades but it won’t help us later in life. Also when we understand what we are studying, it becomes easier to memorize since we can relate to it and put it in our own words. The speech made by the character ‘Chatur’ in the film shows us how damaging it can be to not have understood what you are talking about. He without knowing the meaning of the word ‘Balatkar’ used it several times in place of the word ‘Chamatkar’ and ended up making a fool of himself.

The second and the most important message in the film was ‘DON’T RUN BEHIND SUCCESS. ACHIVE EXCELLENCE AND SUCCESS WILL FOLLW!’ In the movie Amir Khan’s character ‘Rancho’ was in love with machines and he enjoyed studying only for the sake of gaining knowledge. He never strove to come first but he did because he attained excellence in his felid of interest. This just goes to show that if we channel our energy towards our interest and achieve excellence in that field, success will follow us wherever we go. Running behind success instead will divert our attention from our field of interest, and we will eventually be unhappy, since how successful we become, will be only a relative term, and there will always be someone better and more successful than us.

Knowledge is everywhere. You just need to identify and absorb it. Today the face of Indian education is changing with practical based courses such as BBA and MBA and more stress on application based examinations such as CAT. Soon enough the mugging up and spoon feeding of notes will have come to an end. This change will be welcome not only by the students but also by the corporate. It is true that staying in a bubble and continuing with the current system is easier but it is only when there is a certain amount of freedom of expression that creativity will truly flourish and if each one of us makes proper use of this freedom with responsibility, then we too can achieve our highest potentials and consequently success will follow.

Finally when in doubt just console your heart with ‘All izz well!!!’
